MC40 - 1840-50's Period Bonnet. This Bonnet is just two pieces, the back and side. The pattern piece for the side can be cut on alternate lines to give a bonnet that is earlier or later within this 20 year span. It includes instructions for making it as a fabric covered hat or making it up as "straw braid". This is one straw covered versions where two different natural straw braids are used to create surface texture. This is another braid over buckram version. The braid is black hemp and the corners are rounded and the sewn together without the buckram backing. There is an added straw curtain which is doubled with a ribbon curtain.
