A false sleeve designed to wear under the larger, open sleeves of the mid 19th century, although it was also worn during the Regency. Period Impressions Patterns are created from extant period clothing and are graphically rendered by hand on heavy blue line paper. Skirts from the Civil War and Antebellum periods were typically made of gathered squares of fabric and measurements for skirts may be included instead of unnecessary paper piece in some cases. Period Impression Patterns have detailed instructions, but do assume some sewing experience. Novice sewers may find these patterns a little more challenging.
