1880s-1900s Dinner Jacket (Tuxedo) Pattern

RC924- 1880s-1900s Dinner Jacket (Tuxedo) Pattern. This is the earliest incarnation of the dinner jacket -- known in the US as the Tuxedo. A marriage between the casual lounge jacket and the very very informal smoking jacket, the dinner jacket became casual evening wear for the man of fashion in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. This pattern is based on an original tailor's draft from the period and fits chests 38"-54" with instructions for making the pattern fit larger sizes. All sizes are included in one envelope. Embellishment suggestions, historical notes and period tailoring techniques are also included. Suggested Fabrics: suit wools. Yardage Requirements: 4 yds at least 45" wide or 3 yds 60" wide. Notions: thread, buttons for front closure, buttonhole floss, interlining.
