The banks of the Oslo Fjord in Norway were used by the Vikings for burials. The richest such burial in Scandinavia is in Oseberg. It was excavated by Gabriel Gustafson in 1904. Two women were found buried in the ship, one aged 60-70 and the other 25-30; based on this, and the name of the nearby town, some have suggested the elderly woman was Queen Aasa, mentioned in the Viking poem Ynglingatal. The design of this clasp is based on the bed posts of a bed found in the grave.
