WRMEDPK - Medieval Sword Letter Opener - Pewter This letter opener measures 16.5cm and is antique silver plated. It is supplied in a box with historical information. This fine quality collector's item is a letter opener in the shape of a medieval sword supplied in a box with clear lid and with an information sticker describing the sword and its parts. The standard shape of the medieval sword was the same throughout the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. These swords had a wheel shaped-pommel at the end of the handle, simple cross bar guard and a broad blade. This letter opener is based on the medieval swords of the fourteenth century. During this period the length of the blades increased in length and would have extended up to 50 inches / 125cm. To balance the extra weight the grip was made longer and the wheel pommel was made larger and heavier. Blades were generally broad and double-edged, and a single channel running down the blade was very popular.
